A Simple Seasonal Marketing Calendar for Contractors

Almost every trade has a rhythm. Roofers get calls after storms, HVAC companies get slammed in the first heat wave, and landscapers get busy every spring. The slow stretches in between are when a lot of contractors start to worry. The phone stops ringing, the crew is sitting around, and you are not sure when the next job is coming.

A simple marketing calendar helps you fill those slower stretches. The idea is not to run ads or cold call strangers. It is to reach out to the people who already know you and trust you, your past customers, with a well-timed message that reminds them you are there. Here is a seasonal calendar you can adapt to any trade.

Winter: plan and reconnect

Reach out to past customers with a thank you and a reminder that you are booking spring work. Offer early scheduling for the busy season so they get on your calendar before it fills up. This is the time to plant the seed so that when the weather breaks and they start thinking about the project they have been putting off, your name is the one that comes to mind.

For trades that stay busy in winter, like plumbing and HVAC, use this season to remind customers about maintenance, tune-ups, and inspections. A quick text about preparing their system for cold weather can generate service calls during a time when you might otherwise be slow.

Spring: maintenance and projects

Send reminders for spring cleanups, tune-ups, and inspections. This is also a great time to ask happy customers for referrals. People are thinking about home projects in the spring, and if they had a good experience with you last year, a nudge to recommend you to a neighbor can land at exactly the right time.

Spring is when homeowners start searching for contractors. If you have been staying in touch with past customers, you are already top of mind when their friend asks, Do you know a good roofer? The referral comes because you asked for it at the right moment, not because you got lucky.

Summer: stay top of mind

Share recent project photos and quick tips. Remind customers about anything that needs attention before fall. For most trades, summer is the busiest season, but that does not mean you should stop marketing. A quick message with a photo of a finished job keeps you in their feed, and a tip about AC maintenance or roof inspections keeps you relevant.

The goal in summer is not to book new jobs right now. It is to keep the relationship warm so that when the busy season ends and the slow stretch starts, you are not starting from scratch. A customer who heard from you in July is more likely to book a fall project than one who has not heard from you since last spring.

Fall: prepare for winter

Promote fall maintenance, inspections, and anything weather related in your trade. Ask for reviews from everyone you worked with this year. Fall is the time to lock in the good will you built during the busy season so that when winter comes and work slows down, you have a pipeline of past customers who remember you.

For roofers, fall is gutter cleaning season. For HVAC, it is furnace inspection time. For landscapers, it is leaf removal and winter prep. Every trade has a fall task that homeowners know they need but will put off until the last minute. A reminder text in early fall fills your schedule before the first cold snap.

Holidays and slow weeks

A short, friendly offer to past customers during a slow stretch can fill your schedule without spending a dime on ads. The week between Christmas and New Year's, the dead of January, and the last two weeks of summer are all times when most contractors are slow but past customers are home and thinking about what they want to fix next year.

Send a simple message: We have a few openings this month and wanted to offer past customers a discount on [service]. It does not need to be a big discount. It just needs to be a reason to call you instead of waiting until spring. You would be surprised how many people take you up on it.

Keep it simple

You do not need a marketing team to do this. A handful of well-timed texts and emails to people who already trust you goes a long way. The key is timing each message to a real moment, a change in season, a holiday, or a maintenance reminder, so it feels helpful instead of promotional. Nobody wants to hear from their contractor in March about a summer offer. They want to hear from you in March about spring cleanup.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I send campaigns to past customers?

Most contractors do well with a seasonal offer every few months and a check-in between them. You do not want to overwhelm people, but you also do not want them to forget your name. The key is timing each message to a real moment, like a change in season or a holiday.

What if my trade does not have a busy season?

Every trade has some rhythm. Plumbing may be steadier than roofing, but there are still moments when maintenance or inspections make sense. Build your calendar around the moments that apply to your trade, even if they are less dramatic than storm season.

Do I need a marketing team to do this?

No. Pre-written campaigns do most of the work for you. You pick one, hit send, and the system handles the rest. You do not need to write copy, design emails, or manage a marketing calendar by hand.
